Matt Tullis is an assistant professor of English and Digital Journalism and the director of the Digital Journalism program at Fairfield University. He is the host, producer and creator of Gangrey: The Podcast, which focuses on narrative journalism and the reporters who write it. Tullis also serves as an associate editor of River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative.
Tullis was a daily newspaper reporter for about ten years before becoming a journalism professor. He has worked for The Daily Record in Wooster, Ohio, the Star-News in Wilmington, NC, and the Columbus Dispatch. Since joining academia, he’s written for a number of other publications as a freelance writer, including SB Nation Longform, Cleveland Magazine, Sports on Earth, Yahoo!’s The Post Game and Nieman Storyboard.
Tullis has been noted in Best American Sports Writing three times and Best American Essays once. He has an MFA from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He lives with his wife and two children in Newtown, CT.
